Which is the Best HDTV?

The answer is ……..   “that depends”…….

Best HDTV?  Tough question.  Now don’t be disappointed that there is not a cut and dried answer waiting for you in this first paragraph.  After all this is the-best-HDTV.com.

The Reason there is no easy answer…

With all these HDTV's (and more) to choose from how do you find the best HDTV?

John evaluating HDTV's at Circuit City

You find your HDTV by becoming an educated buyer.

There are so many variables.  But help is in this website.  It will lead you through the process of making a decision which is the best HDTV for you.

I work hard to stay current on HDTV's and which one is the best HDTV.  In the picture above, I am doing "field research" in Circuit City.  I can't buy them all, but the big stores are my laboratory where I compare HDTV's.

Just a few of the things to consider when shopping for an HDTV.

  • Did you know that just the size and shape of the room where you plan to install your new HDTV is something that you must consider?

  • Did you know that usually purchasing a 1080p set in a small screen size is a waste of money?  Smaller flat screen LCD HDTV’s do not need to be 1080p since 720p on a small screen looks great.  Save money on a smaller HDTV.  Don’t buy the 1080p model.

These are just a few of the special tips that you will get from this site.  You will also learn some of the traps to avoid.

Why should you be shopping for the best HDTV?

Because your old analog television will not work after February 17, 2009 without a special converter

Many people are shopping for the best HDTV because after February 17, 2009 , the U. S. Government will no longer allow the old style television signal (called analog signal) to be broadcast.  As of that date, all high power television signals will be digital.  This doesn’t mean that as of February 17, you have to put you old analog sets set on the junk pile.  It will just need a little help to continue to receive the old style signal.  The U. S. Government will give you two $40 certificates to use to purchase converter boxes, which converts digital signals to analog signals so your old set can still be used.

Many people have decided to change from their old analog set to digital to enjoy the advantages of high definition digital television.

The new technology makes television viewing much more exciting

This was provided by one of our readers …

I love to sit down and catch a good football game on TV or stretch out and watch a good action film.  On occasion I can be found watching my favorite show on during the week or catching up on the History Channel.  Before I go and make myself sound like a couch potato, please understand that I am quite an active person.  I train for triathlons, work on woodworking projects in my garage, and chase a two year old around my house on most days.  The truth is I don’t have a lot of time to watch TV.

So why would some one who doesn’t get to watch a lot of TV want to willingly part with $2500 to buy a brand new 42” LCD HDTV when they have a perfectly good tube TV already?  I can only say this: the picture that is available with an HDTV is so good that what little TV I get to watch I want to watch in High Def.  It sounds silly, but it is true.  The High Definition picture is that good.

The difference for me is watching a football game and just seeing the teams or watching a football game and seeing the sweat on the foreheads of the players.  With regular TV it is easy to enjoy the picture of the stadium on game day... with HDTV you enjoy seeing the blades of grass on the field when the players are tackled.

And for the ladies

The HDTV experience makes regular TV programming even more fantastic to watch as well.  I am a diehard fan of the current TV hit “Lost” and I usually make sure I am in front of the HDTV for the show.  There is a woman on the show that was nicknamed “Freckles” by one of the other survivors.  This is a nickname given to her several seasons back when I watched it on my regular TV.  Watching it last week on my HDTV I laughed because I was actually able to see her freckles on her face.  Before I had to assume she had freckles because the picture on my regular TV didn’t have the detail.

My wife enjoyed watching the Academy Awards the other night on the HDTV because it showed all the stars in their true glory.  Some were beautiful, some were rugged, and a few looked like they were not aging well.  The HDTV is great because it shows the wrinkles and lines, the pimples and hairs on even the biggest stars.  If you want to feel good, watch an awards show in Hi Def and you will realize that the most famous movie stars are human just like you.

Conclusion

I looked long and hard for the best HDTV’s before deciding to buy.  After all the quality of the product had to be good enough that I was willing to pay the extra expense for what I would consider a rarely used item around my house.  I do not regret for one minute purchasing the best HDTV for us.  Every time I sit down and watch my shows with the clarity, crispness, and pure picture that my HDTV delivers, I only regret I don’t have more time to watch.  If you are thinking about getting your own HDTV, make the leap, you will be glad you did.
